Ronan, MT, Feb. 26th, 2007 - St. Luke Community Hospital is now among a select group of U.S. hospitals equipped with an industry-leading 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner. Steve Sivak, radiology department manager at the Ronan hospital says, “The recently installed Toshiba Aquilion 64 is as good as or better than any scanner in western Montana.”
The new CT scanner provides quicker, superior resolution images with the industry’s lowest dosage of radiation according to Sivak. He adds, “We are now able to do a full-body scan in a matter of seconds rather than having the patient hold still for several minutes.” In fact, a recent patient commented that “it took me longer to get ready for the scan than the actual scan itself.”
Sivak says that another advantage of the new 64-slice scanner is the fact that a scan can be done after drinking a glass of water versus a typical two-hour wait after ingesting barium.
“This new machine has so many capabilities that we can’t help but be excited,” Sivak says with a wide grin. “We will be able to do 25-30 more exams that we haven’t been able to do in the past. That includes virtual colonoscopies and diagnostic images that will help detect heart disease including chest and neck CT angiography plus a non-invasive view of the coronary artery.”
The head of the radiology department at St. Luke proudly points out, “It’s the same state-of-the-art technology you see in major medical centers elsewhere available right here in the Mission Valley in a 25-bed critical access hospital in Ronan, Montana.”
